BARN HUNT INFORMATION

Dachshunds designed to the challenge...

Some breeds are specifically created, others are born to the role.  Dachshunds, with their long, low to the ground body, ideally made to fit through an 18″ wide by 15" tall tunnel. “Barn Hunt tests the nose, speed, agility, and sure footedness of dogs that have a history of above-ground vermin hunting,” said Robin Nuttall, founder of the Barn Hunt Association.

Barn Hunt events include a pass/fail instinct class for owners who want  to familiarize their dog with the test. Courses are made increasingly difficult by adding more obstacles, additional diversions and more rats to find. There are several types of Barn Hunt titles your dog can earn.

  • Barn Hunt (AKC) -  The Barn Hunt Association is an independent organization where titles earned can be recognized by The American Kennel Club. Titles earned in Novice and above will be recognized by The American Kennel Club.

  • Barn Hunt Clubs in Virginia -   Barn Hunt is committed to creating a safe and fun sport for dogs, that  also holds rat care at the highest level of consideration. The rats used  in Barn Hunt are  beloved family pets. They jump eagerly into their  safe, comfortable aerated tubes and truly enjoy interacting with the  dogs.

Fast CAT

Fast CAT® – Stands for Coursing Ability Test

– is a timed  100-yard dash where dogs run one at a time, chasing a lure. It’s over  before you know it — and it’s nothing short of awe-inspiring to watch  your dog run at top speed, ears back, eyes focused, legs strong. And if  your dog is really fast, you might earn bragging rights if his name makes onto our list of top 20 fastest dogs by breed!

Although it is a relatively new sport, its popularity has spread like  wildfire. No wonder. According to one AKC official, “The FAST CAT®  provides a terrific opportunity to introduce new participants to the  world of AKC sports as one of the few events where all that is needed to compete is a dog’s natural instincts.”

Fast CAT is open to all dogs over 12 months of age that have an AKC Number from one of four sources. AKC Registration, AKC Canine Partners, Purebred Alternative Listing (PAL) program or Foundation Stock Services (FSS). For more information Click Here
